One of the issues in switching over to plant-based or low-salt eating is making it taste so good you want to eat more (and not miss the meat or salt.). Cooking with herbs, and other seasonings will make that transition easier. Join Deborah Johnson, RSS Community Health Nutrition Educator as she offers information about the different herbs and spices that will not only make your food taste better but also have properties that can help improve your health.
After the lecture, there will be plenty of time to ask questions about eating and cooking plant-based meals, share your successes and challenges and get support for yourself and others on this journey of eating healthier.
Let's Talk Vegetables: Tomatoes & Basil (Online)
To register: https://rssny.org/class-forms/kickstarter.html
This month we’ll explore the tomato, a food item of the Americas, that transformed cuisines around the world. Loved, feared, and revered at various times in culinary history, tomatoes are now one of the most popular vegetables in the world. Or are they a fruit – we’ll examine that too!
We’ll also discuss basil, an herb often paired with tomatoes, but, complementary to so many other foods as well. Basil, related to mint, is in season in our area throughout the summer. We’ll look at some of the different basil varieties available in the Greenmarkets.
Join Let's Talk Vegetables (LTV) this month to learn more about tomatoes and basil. Each LTV presentation starts with some information about GrowNYC, our Greenmarket farmers markets, and what is currently in season. We will then focus on this month’s featured vegetables including historical information, nutritional information, growing these veggies in the NY area, and trivia.
