RSS - Connecting Generations
The RSS community vision is to promote positive intergenerational relationships and eliminate negative stereotypes. The future of aging can only be enhanced if we recognize that our success and the national interest depend on connecting generations for good.
The Horace Mann School has developed its Service Learning Team which has enhanced the lives of our members through various programs and the development of our community garden. RSS members have enriched the lives of the students by sharing their expertise and life experience.
- Service Learning Days: at the center and on Zoom during the pandemic.
- Working together on the RSS garden: through the generosity of Horace Mann, several garden beds were donated and built during past Service Learning Days. Over the years more beds were added and the garden has become a featured part of RSS.
- Wellness Calls to homebound older adults: Groups of students called on RSS members during the pandemic on a regular basis. The calls allowed the students and adults to find out about hobbies, likes/dislikes, and mutual interests. Over time relationships developed that benefited everyone.
