RSS' Congregate Meals

Congregate Meals at RSS

At Riverdale Senior Services, mealtime is about more than nutrition — it is an opportunity to connect, socialize, and enjoy a freshly prepared meal in a welcoming community setting.

RSS operates as a congregate meal site in accordance with NYC Aging (formerly DFTA) requirements. Congregate meals are designed to be enjoyed together on site, helping support proper nutrition, social engagement, and healthy aging.

Meal Schedule
Breakfast: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
Lunch: Monday through Friday

All meals provided through the congregate meal program must be consumed on site. Take-home meals are not permitted under RSS policy and applicable NYC Aging program requirements.

To support responsible food service and reduce waste, any meals remaining after the scheduled meal service may be offered as leftover meals for on-site consumption. Food that remains after service is handled in accordance with proper food-safety procedures. When appropriate, leftovers may be properly cooled and used as an alternate meal the following day, frozen for future use, or incorporated into another meal, such as soup. RSS is committed to minimizing food waste while maintaining safe food-handling practices.

Our meal program is part of RSS’s broader commitment to nourishing bodies, strengthening community, and creating opportunities for connection every day.

The RSS Take-Home Meal Policy is available near the meal sign-in area and is also posted in other visible locations throughout the Center.
