F11: Digital Paintings for Full Screen (ONLINE)

Tuesday, August 10, 2021
5:00 pm6:00 pm

Join Emily O’Leary, Associate Curator at the Derfner Judaica Museum, on Zoom for a guided tour of the Museum’s current online exhibition F11: Digital Paintings for Full Screen, which explores how contemporary artists use the computer to “paint” in the same way as they’d use
a brush. Ms. O’Leary will discuss the technology used to create the paintings as well as each artist’s work. The paintings by 10 international artists vary in style and subject, ranging from the lush landscapes of Scottish artist Donald Hargrove (pictured above), to the digital collages of Luise Eru who reflects on the marginalization that Black people endure in his home country of Brazil.

The term “F11” refers to the computer key that can be pressed to make the internet viewable at full screen. During Covid, when museums were closed or at limited capacity, art exhibitions onthe internet became commonplace but showcased artworks that exist in the physical world.

This exhibit features digital paintings best viewed on a screen. The artists include Adam Blitz, Elaine Chao, Luise Eru, Donald Hargrove, Samhita Kamisetty, Annie Lee, Carlos Torres Machado, Collin Pollard, Polina Protsenko and Stefanie Wolfson.
