Fabric Art
During this zoom art talk we will explore modern art works made from threads or fabric. Starting out as being considered ‘decorative’ and mostly a woman’s domain, this medium has been revolutionized since the Bauhaus years and has a very strong standing in Contemporary Art by now. Anni Albers and Gunta Stölz were amongst these early pioneers, creating wall hanging, exploring new materials and techniques that elevated their works far above the just functional. Joan Miro and Le Corbusier both created mural size ‘nomadic’ fabric art; Lenore Tawney, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Aurelia Munoz, Mrinalini Mukherjee are amongst the leading sculptural fabric artists, all exploring this wonderful material for different reasons and in most
innovative ways!
