Get in touch with your creative side and leave your mark on history—no needle or thread required! RSS and the Kingsbridge Historical Society have teamed up for a community art project--the creation of a tapestry representing our community, events, landmarks, and local history on the 250th anniversary of American Independence. Participants will work with teaching artist, Tijay Mohammed, to produce "squares," which will all be stitched together to form the larger tapestry which will be displayed at different venues in the community.

No artistic or sewing experience is needed! You can choose to create art, design, or just help out with stitching--or you can do all of those components if you wish.

In 1976, local women from the Kingsbridge/Riverdale area got together for "quilting bees" to produce the celebrated bicentennial quilts. The quilts reveal what locals valued about our community half a century ago. Now it is your turn to express yourself.

The Kingsbridge Historical Society

Local historians from the Kingsbridge Historical Society will visit the class to provide support and local history background and answer your questions. The Kingbridge Historical Society has been working to keep our local Riverdale/Kingsbridge history alive since 1949. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
