Eating Disorder Awareness

Tuesday, February 24, 2026

Eating Disorder Awareness focuses on educating the public about the complexities of conditions like anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder, while actively working to dismantle the harmful myths surrounding them. A core goal of these awareness efforts—such as National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (celebrated Feb 23 – March 1, 2026)—is to highlight that eating disorders do not have a "look" and can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, or background. By promoting early intervention and body neutrality, these campaigns aim to reduce the stigma that often prevents people from seeking life-saving medical and psychological care.

If you or someone you know needs support, there are several confidential and accessible resources available:

National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA): Offers a comprehensive resource center and a free online screening tool to help determine if it’s time to seek professional help.

The National Alliance for Eating Disorders: Provides a therapist-staffed helpline at 866-662-1235 and hosts free, clinician-led weekly support groups (both virtual and in-person).

ANAD (National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders): Offers a peer-support helpline and a recovery mentorship program that pairs individuals with someone who has successfully navigated recovery.

International Support: In the UK, you can contact Beat at 0808 801 0677, and in Canada, the National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC) provides support via their helpline and instant chat.
