Latin American Artists in the US

As an immigrant country the US is home to a large community of Latin American artists,
many of whom are addressing issues of colonialism, immigration, home or community in
their work, using a wide variety of media, from painting and sculpture to video and
photography as well as installation art. In our talk we will have a closer look at Latino artists
in the US, like Cecilia Vicuna, Ana Mendieta, Jean Michel Basquiat, Felix Gonzalez Torres,
Damien Ortega, Ivan Navarro, Alfredo Jaar, Vic Muniz and Firelei Baez. Their work helps us
remember old traditions and beliefs, reconsider perspectives on history, understand
experiences of injustice and loss and celebrate pan american community.
