This neighborhood at the edge of Upper West Side and Harlem, on top of a rocky land formation, is unique in that it houses several major institutions for soul mind and body: St John the Divine and Riverside Church, Columbia University, and St Luke’s Hospital, all with very impressive architectural structures. Other institutions followed, but the neighborhood also features the most elegant late 19th C apartment buildings along equally elegant avenues like Morningside and Riverside Drives. While Morningside Dr. rises high above the valley of Harlem, Riverside Park runs alongside the mighty Hudson River adding natural beauty as well as another major monument: Grant’s Tomb, the burial place of our 18th. President. This neighborhood is one of the most carefully and beautifully designed ones in NYC!
